2006/2007 NEW BEGINNING?

9 Aug 2007

Congratulations for all the snooker fans with the beginning of the new Snooker Season 2007/08. Of course, my congratulations are late – and I hope that you will forgive the absence of the updates.

The Season started in the East, in China, where the new ranking tournament, the he Shanghai Masters, was established. As you remember, as the result of a poor season 2005/2006 and not good enough season 2006/2007 Matthew Stevens lost his place in the Top-16, the world snooker elite. It looks like that this trouble gave him that energy that he lacked in the previous seasons.

Now he has to start all the tournaments in the Prestatine, where the qualification rounds are played, and he passed the first qualification test by wining the right to perform in China.

And he made a bright start to the new season by whitewashing 5-0 Aussie Neil Robertson, a player many expect to shine this year after he clinched two ranking titles last time out. He then faced Stephen Maguire in the second round and won it too 5-4.

In the Quarterfinal Stevens will meet his friend and a fellow-Welshman Ryan Day.

The 2006-2007 Season Is Over

29 May 2007

Again long absence of updates and again my apologies. This was a tough season, better, than the previous one, still not good enough. Stevens lost his place at the top-16 that belonged to him for eight consecutive seasons - that means he will have to win a qualifying match to return to the Crucible next year.

Pity that this season was twice as better than the previous one, Matthew collected 14 950 ranking points that is the 13th place in the provisional one-year rankings. The previous very poor season (with only 8,600points taken) did not let the Welshman keeping his place. Still, it's going to be more tournaments for the next season and more opportunities for Matthew Stevens to come back to the elite.

Leaving Sheffield where Stevens lost in the quarterfinal at the Worlds, he promised to come back: "I'm going to put a lot of work in this summer and make sure I qualify for this next year".

And we will keep an eye on Matthew Stevens's life and career and inform our readers.

For now - a small bonus from Shanty, our second administrator, a collection of Wallpapers.

Second bonus, an interview given to CueFactor before the Worlds.
